XMPP/Prosody
Open Source MITOpen messaging protocol with the lightweight Prosody server
Description
XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) is an open, decentralized communication protocol, and Prosody is one of the most popular XMPP servers. Prosody is written in Lua, resource-efficient, and easy to configure. XMPP offers end-to-end encryption via OMEMO, group chats (MUC), file sharing, and voice/video calls via Jingle. The federated network enables communication across server boundaries, similar to email.
