PrepTrack for Android

Privacy Policy

PrepTrack keeps your inventory on your device. There is no user account, no cloud sync and no analytics. Nothing you enter is sent to us — we operate no server that could receive it.

In short: your products, quantities, expiry dates, storage locations and notes are stored only in the app's local database on your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes them.

PrepTrack is a private, non-commercial project. This policy covers the PrepTrack Android app (package io.github.beko2210.preptrack).

2. What the app stores on your device

Everything you enter stays in a local database on your phone:

This data is never transmitted to us or to any third party. It is not backed up to any service by the app itself. Note that Android's own backup features, if you have them enabled, may include app data — that is handled by Google under Google's terms, not by us.

3. When the app uses the internet

The app works fully offline. It contacts the internet in exactly two situations:

Barcode lookup (Open Food Facts)

If you scan a barcode, the app sends only that barcode number to the free product database Open Food Facts to retrieve a product name, so you do not have to type it. No other data from your inventory is sent, and the request contains no identifier of you or your device beyond what any web request necessarily reveals (such as your IP address, which Open Food Facts receives as the recipient of the request).

Purchase of "PrepTrack Unlimited"

The app is free for up to five active products. Unlocking unlimited products is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Your payment details are processed by Google and never reach the app or us; the app only learns whether a valid purchase exists for your Google account.

4. Permissions and why they are needed

PermissionWhy
CameraOnly to scan product barcodes. The camera image is processed on your device and is never stored or transmitted. You can decline this permission and still use the whole app by entering products manually.
InternetFor the two cases in section 3 — barcode lookup and the Google Play purchase.
NotificationsOnly if you switch on expiry reminders. Reminders are scheduled and delivered by your device itself — no push service, no server, nothing leaves your phone. You can turn them off again at any time in the app.

The app asks for no other permissions. It does not access your location, contacts, microphone, photos or files, and it contains no push messaging.

Expiry reminders

If you enable reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device — 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before a product expires. The product name and storage location appear in the notification on your own phone only. Nothing is transmitted, and no push service is involved.

5. What the app does not do

6. Children

PrepTrack is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, regardless of age.

7. Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete. You remain in full control of the data on your device: you can edit or delete any entry in the app, and uninstalling the app removes the database completely.

Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For matters concerning Google Play or Open Food Facts, please contact those providers directly.

8. Changes

If the app's data handling changes, this page is updated before the change ships. The date below shows the current version.
